July

30th Annual Lady Minto Charity Tournament –  Saturday, July 10th. To celebrate the 30th Anniversary, our theme will be – A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE ER – so dig out your best scrubs and stethoscopes. This team scramble is open to all players and the funds raised benefit our Lady Minto Hospital Foundation. Make up your own team and register at ladymintofoundation.com. You will have a choice of three tee times: 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., or 2:00 p.m. and each group will have a celebration following their round which will include food, beverages, awards for best costumes and prizes. Come early so can you check out the booths set up around the clubhouse. In keeping with COVID-19 guidelines, the Tournament will be restructured while still maintaining the FUN FACTOR. Prizes will be awarded for Low Gross, Low Net, Sandbaggers Corporate Team, and of course the famous Most Honest Golfers.

Shipley Coronation Cup – This 18-hole event was named for the coronation of George VI and is restricted to members. The low net winners are awarded with crowns and a trophy. Men and women form their own pairs and register as a couple at the Pro Shop. The game is alternate shot, with men driving off the odd holes and women from the even numbered tee boxes. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at noon and is followed by dinner.

Dods Cup – Only left handed members can register for this low net tournament. It is an individual stroke play 18-hole event.

Adam and Eve – A member only 18-hole tournament, it begins with a shotgun start at noon. Men and women choose their own partners and register as a couple at the Pro Shop. The game is alternate shot, with men driving off the odd holes and women from the even numbered tee boxes. It is followed by dinner at the restaurant.

August

SSI Amateur Open – The inaugural event took place in 1970 to bring together golfers from the San Juan and Southern Gulf Islands. It is always the 2nd weekend in August and features Men’s and Ladies’ Divisions. It is open to all golfers and entries have come from as far away as Sweden. Although it is individual stroke play, you may enter as a foursome. The field is divided into two groups, each playing 18 holes at either 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. the first day and reversing those times on the Sunday. A shotgun start is used. Trophies are awarded to the Low Gross and Low Net winners in each division and there are great skins prizes. A dinner is held on Saturday, after the first day of the competition. Awards and prizes are presented immediately after golf on Sunday. The SSI Open begins with a ‘horse race’ team event on Friday afternoon for those who wish to participate. In this event, the highest scoring teams drop off as the game moves from the first to the ninth hole where the final two teams battle for the win. Players are allowed a practice round on the Friday prior to the tournament.

The Barnsbury Classic – The Club’s own annual fundraising tournament with all proceeds going to support club improvements. The Barnsbury Classic celebrates the Club’s history of being founded in 1928 on the site of a sheep farm on the “Barnsbury Estate”. Golfers are encouraged to dress in vintage 1928 golf attire and scheduled for the last weekend in August, this is a true mixer open to all members and the public. As this is our major club fundraiser of the year, the only prize is the pride of having your team’s name added to the trophy. The format is a fun scramble with a variety of stroke saving opportunities available on the course. The Classic includes a number of fun prize draws and the chance to purchase one of the limited Golden Tickets to win a full annual membership.

November

Grey Cup – This net tournament is set up for fun. Play 18 holes with a team of your choice and then come in and watch the game on our big screen TV.
